Aug 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Higher Education Ministry has decided to expand the leadership training programme introduced to new university entrants to all the full time students entering advanced technology institutes and other higher educational institutes in the country.
The Ministry has 16 such institutes and annually around 3500 students are enrolled into these institutes. The Ministry plans to raise the number to 4,500-5,000 from next year. This year, the Ministry has increased the number to 4000.
The Secretary of the Ministry Sunil Jayantha Navaratne has said the students will be given three week leadership training at the military camps similar to the program the university entrants underwent earlier this year.
The official said the parents of these students had requested the government to provide the training. They are to be given English and computer training as well.
