Oct 14, Colombo: A senior minister of the Sri Lankan government says that ruling party Colombo District parliamentarian Duminda Silva currently being treated at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital for gunshot injuries was never appointed as an advisor or supervisor of the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry.
Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Media Keheliya Rambukwella told the media that the statement made in parliament by Chief Government Whip Minster Dinesh Gunawardena that there were no supervising MPs for any ministry was accurate.
Rambukwella has said that although Silva had not been appointed as the supervising MP for the Defence Ministry, he monitored the work at the Urban Development Authority (UDA) which is under the Defence Ministry.
However, he has added that it was in no way an official appointment.
Rambukwella has pointed out that every MP has the opportunity to supervise the affairs in any ministry as a public representative and that the government allows any such member who indicates an interest in monitoring such affairs the green light to go ahead.
