May 09, Colombo: Sri Lankan Minister for Foreign Employment, Promotion, and Welfare, Dilan Perera, who is on a five-day visit to Qatar to explore the possibility of getting more jobs for Sri Lankans has received positive responses from the Qatari business community.
The Minister, visiting on an invitation extended by the Qatari government, held talks with Qatari entrepreneurs and their representatives on Monday to explore the possibility of finding more employment opportunities for Sri Lankan nationals in the new projects to be announced in the coming months.
Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said the talks held to promote foreign employment in the country were positive.
A delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and Chief Executive Officers of recruitment agencies in Sri Lanka accompanied the Minister.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha has invited a large number of companies and recruiting agencies to the meeting with the Sri Lankan delegation.
Qatar is chosen as the venue to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and it is anticipated that a large number of opportunities in the construction services sector to become available.
The Sri Lankan delegation has held discussions on expertise Sri Lanka has in the sector and the employment opportunities for Sri Lanka’s skilled workers.
The Minister is also expected to visit Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia in promoting more foreign employment opportunities. The Minister is scheduled to return on May 12.
