New shopping center in Sri Lankan capital for evicted pavement hawkers

Aug 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa will declare open a new shopping center tomorrow in the heart of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo for the minor traders.

The newly built shopping center comprising 468 stalls is situated in Gunasinghepura of Pettah, Colombo.

The shops have been distributed among the pavement hawkers who were evicted for public convenience and city beautification, says the Chairman of the Colombo Self-Employed People’s Association, Mahinda Kahandagama.

A grand musical show is also to be held tomorrow following the opening of the shopping center.
