New Sri Lanka ruling party local government legislators to be sworn in Sunday

Oct 11, Colombo: The newly elected ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance members to the local government bodies are to take their oaths on Sunday (16) while all new legislators are to receive a training on political ethics and law.

The heads of the 21 local councils the UPFA won in the third phase of the local government elections on last Saturday (08) will be sworn in on Sunday before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees, the national news agency, Lankapuwath reported.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils plans to give provide a training program for the newly elected councilors for the 23 local government bodies that polled last Saturday.

Secretary to the Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka has said that the training will commence from the first week of next month at district level, the state-run radio said. The first workshop of the programme will be held in Gampaha.

The training includes local government law, political ethics and many other things related to local government procedures.
