Apr 14, Colombo: Over 200 people have been admitted to Sri Lanka’s Colombo National Hospital for treatment during the period of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, according to hospital sources.
A spokesperson for the hospital has told the media that the persons admitted have been victims of road accidents and accidents related to fire crackers.
As at 7 am this morning, the hospital has recorded a total number of 212 persons receiving treatment for injuries. Of the 212 individuals, 53 were admitted due to road accidents.
State-run radio SLBC quoting the Director of the Colombo National Hospital Dr. Prasad Ariyawansa has said that although accidents due to fire crackers have been reduced when compared to last year the number of accidents due to drunk driving has been increased.
Meanwhile, people have also been admitted to hospitals in many areas in the country due to injuries sustained mainly from the use of fire crackers.
