President Mahinda Rajapaksa participated at the 47th ‘Aluth Sahal Mangalya’, offering fresh rich to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura this morning (April 03).
The Aluth Sahal Mangalya is a traditional offering of milk-rice to the deities, made from the maiden harvest of the year.
The objectives of the function is to invoke blessings of the deities that protected the paddy cultivation and also to pray for sufficient rain during the season.
The ceremony was organised under the patronage of Chief Sanganayaka of North Central Province Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasa Nayaka Thera.
Farmers coming from all districts offered the initial portion of their Maha season harvest to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at this occasion.
A souvenir, issued to mark the Aluth Sahal Mangalya was handed over to the President by Agrarian Development Commissioner General Sunil Weerasinghe.
The special offering bowl containing maiden harvest of rice was offered to Maha Sangha by the President,while Veddah Chief Uru Warige Wannila Aththo offered honey.
The President also distributed seed paddy among the farmers from all districts.
