Sri Lanka bakery owners claim manufacturing costs of baked products increased by Rs. 3-6

Feb 18, Colombo: Bakery owners in Sri Lanka say prices of bakery products would have to be increased if the government does not provide them with a subsidy.

Head of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association, N.K. Jayawardena says that prices would be increased if they are not provided with some relief measures.

The bakery owners claim that the manufacturing cost of bakery products has increased by Rs. 3-6 following the recent fuel price hike and subsequent price hikes due to it.

Jayawardena has said that while the prices of the main ingredient used in the products have seen an increase, the fuel and electricity price hike has adversely affected the industry.

However, the Association says that a final decision would be made after holding discussions with the Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry.
