Mar 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka marched into the World Cup semi-final securing an emphatic win against England at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat against Sri Lanka, England set a modest score of 230 for Sri Lanka to chase in the last World Cup quarter-final match.
Chasing the target, in a spectacular batting partnership Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga scored centuries to reach 231 in 39.3 overs and beat England by 10 wickets to secure the semi-final slot.
Sri Lanka’s legendary spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan, who is retiring from cricket after the World Cup, grabbed two wickets of England.
Sri Lanka will face New Zealand in the semi-final at R. Premadasa Stadium on March 29.
