Sri Lankan consumers are warned of artificially colored rice

July 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena revealed that a massive racket of coloring rice in red to mislead customers had been identified.

Red rice is recommended by doctors to diabetic patients in Sri Lanka and has an increased demand in the market earning good money.

The Minister said that certain unscrupulous traders color rice and sell them under names such as ‘Pink Samba.’ The Minister said that the dye used n coloring can contain carcinogens that may cause cancer.

The Ministry of Health has taken steps to bring these errant traders into books, says the Minister.
