Sri Lankan government says 22,000 IDPs remaining to be resettled in the North and East

Apr 13, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government says that a majority of the displaced persons in the North and East have been resettled.

The Resettlement Ministry has said that over 95 per cent of the displaced people in the North-East have been resettled in their hometowns.

According to government statistics, of the 280,000 internally displaced people, 252,000 had returned home under the government’s National Resettlement Strategy.

Resettlement Ministry Secretary B.M.U.D. Basnayake has told the media that the Ministry with the support of the Housing Ministry was reconstructing partially damaged houses in the districts of Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Jaffna.
