Sri Lankan government seeks Rs. 16 billion supplementary allocations five months after approval of budget

May 04, Colombo: Five months after the 2011 budget was approved, the Sri Lankan government has sought parliamentary approval for supplementary allocations of Rs. 16.88 billion for several ministries.

The supplementary allocations, tabled in the parliament yesterday, have been requested under 50 heads of various ministries.

According to reports, Rs. 100 million of the supplementary allocations was meant for the initial capital for the company established to bid for hosting the Commonwealth Games in Sri Lanka in 2018.

An allocation of Rs. 252 million has been sought to purchase vehicles for the President’s Office.

Another Rs. 500 million was sought to cover the expenses for flood and drought relief while Rs. 25 million was for the Deyata Kirula exhibition in Buttala.
