July 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers has decided to appoint a Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) on Power and Energy and Supply and Distribution of Petroleum Products.
The CSC will oversee the importation and distribution of petroleum products for all purposes, including power generation in the country.
According to the Cabinet Spokesperson and Media Minister Keheliya Rmbaukwella the appointment of CSC is aimed at achieving sufficiency in power generation by 2012 in the entire country and ensuring an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee will consist of Urban Affairs Minister (Senior) A.H.M. Fowzie, Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne and Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera.
Secretary to the Power and Energy Ministry will function as the Secretary of the Sub-Committee, while Secretary to the Finance and Planning Ministry, Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat for Senior Ministers and the Secretary to the Petroleum Industries Ministry are to attend the meetings of this Sub-Committee, the government said.
