May 20, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government is to present the amended draft of the private sector pension scheme bill to the trade unions next week.
Labor Minister Gamini Lokuge has said the amended draft will be given to the National Labor Advisory Council (NLAC) next week.
Therefore, the bill will not be presented to parliament next Tuesday (24), as initially planned.
Lokuge said the bill would be presented to parliament after consulting the trade unions.
He noted that proposals made by the trade unions, employers as well as the Labor Ministry have been presented to the Finance Ministry to re-draft the bill.
According to Lokuge, the private sector pension bill would be presented to parliament next month.
Trade unions in Sri Lanka vehemently oppose the proposed pension scheme for private sector and were organizing a massive walk out and protest on Tuesday (24).
