Sri Lankan student monks to discuss issues faced by university students with chief prelate

May 23, Kandy: Representatives of the Inter University Buddhist Federation (IUBF) affiliated to Sri Lanka’s Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to meet with the Chief Prelate of the Malwatta Chapter in Kandy this afternoon to inform about the alleged harassment of student monks by Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake.

The IUBF says that the Chief Prelate would be informed about the issues faced by student monks and the suppression of university students including monks in universities by Minister Dissanayake.

Convener of the IUBF, Ven. Kamburupitiye Gnanissara Thero says that during today’s meeting, the IUBF representatives would also speak about the mandatory leadership training programme in military camps formulated by the Ministry.

He said the future action to be taken by the Federation would be decided after the discussions with the Malwatta Chief Prelate.
