Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader says no more elections for top posts in future

Mar 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Opposition and United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that future appointments to posts in the party would be made through a consensus and not through elections.

Wickremasinghe speaking during the ceremony held for elected local government representatives to take oaths at the party headquarters, Sirikotha, said the Working Committee had agreed to the decision.

He has said that no one would be allowed to create any divisions in the party in future and has promised to unite the party and take it towards victory.

Wickremasinghe has also asked all party members who represented the people in various governing bodies to put forward their suggestions on how to increase the party’s mass appeal and reorganizing it at grassroots level before April 21.
