Sept 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka Inspector General of Police (IGP) N.K. Illangakoon says that a new system is under consideration to be introduced for the errant motorists to pay their traffic fines through mobile phones.
Under the present system, the traffic law violators have to surrender their driving license, pay the fine to a post office and bring back the receipt to police to collect the driving license. The system troubles the motorists wasting their time, especially, when they commit offences in areas far from their residence.
The new system will enable the drivers to pay the fine instantly without causing any delay to passengers.
The technical guidance to develop the system is provided by the Arthur C. Clark Center in Colombo, police sources say.
