Third and final vote on Sri Lanka’s 2012 budget this evening

Dec 21, Colombo: The third reading and final vote on the 2012 budget is to take place in the Sri Lankan parliament this evening.

The budget debate that commenced after the presentation of the 2012 budget on November 21st would conclude with today’s vote.

The vote on the second reading took place on November 30th after a debate for seven days.

The budget was passed with a majority of 91 votes at the second reading vote last month. While 151 legislators voted in favor of the budget, only 60 votes against it.

All opposition political parties in the House opposed the budget and voted against it.

The committee stage debates on the ministries and departments commenced on January 1st and continued till today.

After today’s sessions, parliament would be on vacation till January 2012.
