Apr 25, New York: The United Nations said it will release today the report prepared by the Panel of Experts appointed by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to advise him over Sri Lanka’s accountability during the last phase of the civil war.
In response to questions, Martin Nesirky, the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General said that he expected the report of the Panel of Experts on Sri Lanka to published, in full and without amendment, later today.
The report would be accompanied by a statement from the UN Chief, he added.
Sri Lanka has rejected the UN report saying that it is fundamentally flawed and based on patently biased material which is presented without any verification.
Sri Lanka has warned the UN that publishing the report, acting on the wishes of pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora, human right organizations and western media who are relentlessly trying to sabotage the country’s progress and tarnish the image, would irreparably damage the reconciliation process and steps taken to achieve a political solution to the ethnic issue.
