United States educates Eastern Province women on basic medical home care

May 23, Batticaloa: The United States Pacific Command and the Batticaloa Ministry of Health jointly organized a series of seminars on public health to educate women in basic medical care.

The U.S. Ambassador in Colombo, Ms. Patricia Butenis with Dr. S.Sathurmugam, Regional Director of Health Services and Dr. Shanmuganathan, Medical Officer Vavunativu Clinic declared open the Vavunathivu seminar where 96 women from Batticaloa learned about the basic medical home care in addition to preventive medicine procedures.

The Vavunathivu public health seminar was one of four seminars conducted in Batticaloa this week, the U.S. Embassy said in a release.

In a related activity, groups of local volunteers along with physicians from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital conducted health assessments in five villages, visiting over 600 families.
