Jan 30, Colombo: The United Nations sponsored training workshop on climate change for the representatives of Asia region commenced today in Colombo and it will be held until February 03.
The Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) Hands-on Training Workshop on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory for the Asian Region organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is being held at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.
Sri Lanka’s Minister of Environment Anura Priyadarshana Yapa was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony of the program.
An awareness program on minimal use of green gas was held on the first day.
Increases in emissions in greenhouse gases are believed to be the primary cause of climate change and its impacts and the inventories that can provide accurate information of these emissions and trends are critically important.
Workshops on Greenhouse Gas Inventories in Asia (WGIA) have been conducted annually since 2003. WGIAs promote information exchange in the region to support countries’ efforts to improve the quality of greenhouse gas inventories.
